I'm defibrillating, Jerry!!
I’m reading a paper on nano-fibrillar cellulose biocomposites, and thanks to the first author and the indelible mental scars of a 1990s TV sitcom, now I have this overpowering urge to burst dramatically through the doorway of the research office and shout “ya gotta help me Jerry! I need funding!!“…..or something like that.

– — via Geoffers (toyokogyo1976) I also regularly curse those Mazda engineers and would cheerfully garrotte them if I could. But I try to limit the suffering by pulling my 1300 apart a lot less regularly than Geoff does his.

“Rudd, like Blair, has inherited a healthy economy from a leader loathed by the...”
– Adapt or die - Rudd grasped it. The comparison of Rudd to Blair is kind of worrying, given how difficult it is to differentiate Blair from the society-rogering Tories that preceded him. I don’t think the comparison is drawing too long a bow, either. I really hope that the dude does more than...

– - from some dude at a conference whose name I forget now. So true. I’m currently involved in “leaveraging” funding through combining Nanotechnology and Sustainability. WHAMMY! That’s the two uber buzzword hype-research themes right there. Yeah baby!

The empty myths peddled by evangelists of unbelief →
Richard Dawkins is a buffoon, but at least his ridiculous books have sparked some good critical thinking and public commentary from people like John Gray. However, this is patently untrue: “Both (Christianity and Secular Humanism) are tissues of myth, serving a need for meaning rather than an interest in truth.” Christians and Secular Humanists and agnostics alike are interested in...

Research
I’ve just spent pretty much my whole work day trying to buy a clear plastic polycarbonate storage box - similar to the sort of thing you’d use to store crap in under your bed. You wouldn’t think it would be that hard, but nobody sells a polycarb version of those boxes. A whole day to track down one box. Tomorrow I’ll be cable rigging my impact testing tower as if it were a...
